Key hire conditions

Important information before hiring

These are the main conditions that apply. The full Trailer Hire Agreement must be reviewed and signed before the trailer is released.

Identification and insurance
  • A valid driving licence must be provided.
  • A valid insurance certificate for the towing vehicle must be provided.
  • A utility bill showing the same address must be provided.
  • Copies may be retained until the trailer has been returned.
Payment and deposit
  • Full hire charges are payable when collecting the trailer, unless otherwise agreed in writing.
  • Non-storage customers require a £100 deposit authorisation.
  • Qualifying Lock Up Self Storage customers have a £0 deposit.
Number plate and towing equipment
  • Lock Up Self Storage does not provide the number plate.
  • The hirer must display a number plate matching the towing vehicle.
  • The towing vehicle needs a towing bracket and 50mm ball.
  • The trailer uses a 13-pin electrical connection. A suitable adapter is required if your vehicle has a 7-pin socket.
Security when unattended

The supplied security devices and hitch lock must be used whenever the trailer is left unattended. The hirer must take reasonable measures to protect the trailer from theft, damage and other risks throughout the hire period.

Damage, theft and loss

The hirer is responsible for the trailer while it is attached to or detached from the towing vehicle. The hirer may be liable for repair or replacement costs if the trailer, tyres, security equipment or supplied accessories are lost, stolen or damaged.

Cleaning and condition

The trailer must be inspected when collected and returned in the same clean condition. A £25 cleaning surcharge applies if the trailer is not clean internally and externally when returned.

Late returns

Contact Lock Up Self Storage as soon as possible if the trailer will be returned later than agreed. Additional charges may apply because a late return can affect the next booking.

Repairs and adjustments

Contact Lock Up Self Storage if the trailer requires repair or adjustment. The hirer must not authorise another person or business to carry out repairs without prior approval.

Permitted use
  • The trailer must not be used for illegal purposes.
  • The trailer must not be lent, sold or passed to another person.
  • No animals may be carried in the trailer.
  • Prior consent is required before taking the trailer outside England, Wales or Scotland.
Load and towing responsibility

The hirer is responsible for ensuring the towing vehicle, licence, insurance, load distribution and load restraint are suitable. The trailer manufacturer’s stated limits must not be exceeded.

What documents do I need?

You need a valid driving licence, an insurance certificate covering the towing vehicle and a utility bill showing the same address.

Is a deposit required?

Non-storage customers require a £100 deposit authorisation. Qualifying existing Lock Up Self Storage customers have a £0 deposit.

Do you provide a number plate?

No. You must provide a number plate matching the registration of the towing vehicle and display it on the trailer throughout the hire.

What electrical connection is required?

The trailer is fitted with a 13-pin electrical connection. If your towing vehicle has a 7-pin socket, you will need a suitable 7-pin to 13-pin adapter. A suitable tow bar and 50mm tow ball are also required.

Can I hire the trailer for more than one day?

Longer hire periods may be available. Provide your preferred collection and return dates when making your enquiry.

What happens if the trailer is returned dirty?

The trailer must be returned clean internally and externally. A £25 cleaning surcharge applies when additional cleaning is required.

Can animals be carried in the trailer?

No. Animals are not permitted to be carried in the trailer.

What should I do if I will be late returning it?

Call Lock Up Self Storage as soon as possible. Additional charges may apply where a late return affects another booking.
